What is The World of the Wheel?
The World of the Wheel is a play-by-post roleplaying and creative writing fanfic website based on Robert Jordan's fantasy series, The Wheel of Time.
Our members can explore the "Wheel of Time" setting by writing, with other fans, stories playing the role of any of the many types of people (and other creatures) found in The Wheel of Time.
Make a user account
A user account is an identity for you on the site. You can use your real name if you'd like, or something else. It's what you use to log in to the site, and it's this name that will appear on posts you make to the Out of Character (OOC) board. As soon as you sign up, you can start posting there.
Each user account can own lots of different characters (we'll get to that later).
You can make a user account by filling in the form on the site's "front cover". You can pull that down by clicking on the "v"-shaped tab on the menu, or by just clicking here to pull it down now.
If you do this now, you'll be automatically moved to the character creation page, where you can create your first character. If you'd like to see more in advance, have a look down at the next step.
Create some characters
Once you've made your user account, you'll be moved to the Create a Character page. If you'd like to get back there at any time, you can click the link that appears in the black bar at the top of the page when you're signed in. If you're not signed in now, you'll see the text "Not a member? Join us now!" in the same place.
I don't have time to read! Take me to the form already!
Another way to get to the "Create a Character" page is by clicking the blue "make a character…" button, which is also on the site's cover.
Fill out the form and click "Make my character…". That's it— you're ready to roll.
Start your stories
When you've got a character, you can start posting stories about them on any of the In Character (IC) boards that you want to use.
A post on an IC board looks like this one:
They are divided by location— such as the White Tower and the Westlands— to make it easier to find posts and characters similar to yours, but there are no rules about where to post.
There's no word limit- you can write as much or as little as you like- and a thread can fit as many posts in it as you want to write. You can make a new thread when you want to write a new story (or for any other reason), even if you use the same character in several threads at once. Perhaps you just want to split things up into smaller chunks, like chapters in a book.
You don't need to go through the create-a-character process for every character you write about— only if you want to post your writing under their name.
