Red Ajah

The Red Ajah's main focus is geared toward finding those men who can channel and gentling them. Although women cannot detect saidin, they can read the residue of the weaves and that is their primary tool for tracking.

The Red Sisters believe these men to be very dangerous and it has been commented on by Blue Sisters that they believe a Red Sister might kill another Aes Sedai if she believed her to be intentionally protecting a man who could channel. By Tower Law a male channeller must be bought to Tar Valon to be tried and sentenced.

Male channellers are considered by the Reds as tainted or abandoned by the Light or sometimes as 'unbelievers'. Many Reds have been led to seeing all men through negative eyes as a result of the nature of their work.

The Red Ajah is led by a single woman, the Highest, who is considered by other Reds as the equal of the Amyrlin Seat. Hence the Red Ajah Law that:

When the Highest spoke, everyone obeyed, including Sitters. The sole exception, by Ajah law, was voting in the Hall, though some women who held the title had managed to ensure that any vote near to their hearts went as they wished.

Customs of the Red Ajah

There are a few known customs of the Red Ajah that are still in practise at the White Tower.

  • Red Sisters DO NOT bond warders, a sister who suggests otherwise will be punished. However, it is not unheard of for a Red Sister to suggest Warders as useful without repercussions.
  • It is very likely that the Red Ajah has a ban on wearing blue in the Tower, as a counter argument to the Blue Ajah banning their sisters from wearing red.
  • The Red Ajah discourages friendships outside of the Ajah to the point of forcing new sisters not to acknowledge old friends.

Red Ajah Trivia:

  • There is long standing animosity between the Blue Ajah and the Red Ajah.
  • The Red Ajah believes that the Ogier worsened the Breaking by offering sanctuary to male Aes Sedai.
  • Only two Amyrlin Seats were ever removed from office, both of them from the Red Ajah. Both their replacements were raised from the Blue Ajah. There has not been an Amyrlin Seat from the Red Ajah since Bonwhin during Artur Hawkwing's reign. The Red Ajah and Blue Ajah have been antagonistic ever since.
  • There is no love lost between the Red Ajah and White Ajah. The White Ajah usually sides with the Blue Ajah.
  • The Red Ajah is the largest of the seven.
  • A couple of decades ago, all three Sitters for the Red Ajah were exiled because of a scandal.
  • The Red Ajah has a number of spies in the Royal Palace in Caemlyn.
  • From their spies, the Red Ajah and the Brown Ajah must now know about the Kin.

The Highest and her Sitters:

Each Ajah has one Head of Ajah and three Sitters. Two of the three Sitters will be Playing Characters whilst the third remains a Non-playing Character for use by anyone.
