Westland Recruits

As The Forerunners and The Return gobbled up swathes of the Westland's coastline and seized hold of the ruling reigns of a patchwork of lands, so were the local armed forces, who swore the oath, assimilated into the military.

The lancers of Tarabon, later the pike men of Amadicia, were all recruited to bolster local forces. While they were not quite used to discipline as rigorous as that The Return imposed, their familiarity with the local areas was not a disadvantage to the generals in their foreign lands, and they soon adapted.

The Seanchan instituted few alterations to the troops themselves, except to have their breastplates painted in stripes in the colours of their new regiments. The Altaran light cavalry's breastplates bare a red hatch pattern, standing for irregulars of doubtful reliability – a fact of which the cavalry themselves are unaware.

Additionally, recruitment for damane was stepped up following the discovery of the high numbers of free female channelers in the lands - although many noted that the reliability of captured Windfinders, Aes Sedai, and wilders was worse than that across the Aryth.
