Founded in 1021 FY by Lothair Mantelar, the Children of the Light began as a group of religious fanatics during the War of the Hundred Years. The priesthood preached of the glories of the light and the eventually eradication of the Shadow in an attempt to proselytise Darkfriends.
While the group was initially peaceful, the chaos during the War lead to them having to defend themselves more and more, until they evolved into a fully militarised group of religious zealots – a group of crusaders determined to personally exterminate Friends of the Dark, as they define them, and to force their version of what is 'truth' on any and all who disagree with their philosophy or methodology.
One of the most notable aspects of their philosophy is their belief that any one who manipulates the One Power, as the tool the Broke the World, is a Darkfriend, and as Darkfriends all channelers – in particular, the 'Tar Valon Witches', the Aes Sedai – are to be arrested. Channelers in the hands of the Children are invariably executed while 'resisting arrest' – not that the Children manage to seize many fully-fledged Aes Sedai.
The Children of the Light's influence varies around the Westlands. While their soldiers hold little authority in nations such as Andor and none in Tar Valon, in Amadicia, where the Children of the Light are stationed in their Fortress, they rule in all but name. Few countries deny them entrance, however.
The Fortress of the Light is the centre of the Children's power. Beneath the Dome of Truth, the Lord Captain Commander, highest authority among the Children, chairs the Council of the Anointed – the dozen most favoured and influence Lord Captains in the organisation.
The Children of the Light are almost exclusively a cavalry organisation. The soldiers, in their distinctive white tabard bearing the symbol of the Children, a golden sunburst, and denominators of the member's rank, are expected to keep their uniform spotless and their armour well-polished. Every soldier bears a sword, but never under the Dome of Truth or in the Lord Captain Commander's audience chamber.
The Children (and Hand) of the Light will not be initially available for WotW Board characters to roleplay, but this functionality will be later released as part of a Major Role Play Arc.
